RE: [DL] How to use Hoyle

<<I cannot possibly be the only one on the list mad enough to purchase
an original Hoyle (mine one is the prayer book sized one from the 1840'ies)
force.>>

Nope, your not. Mine is Copywrited in 1857 and it has a Preface from the
author that goes on and on saying "Hoyle is a fossil, and suited only to
fossil players." I guess the guy really didn't like his writing style.
Anyways, I didn't stop there. I found a pretty neat website for Civil War
replicas, www.swdecor.com, and I picked up a 1864 deck of cards, and a 1873
Blank-firing Colt Peacemaker. The gun is excellent, but the cards don't come
with any Jokers.

<<But if you want to do something fun, have the player read a section of the

book and teach the group a new card game. For each new game he learns let
him get a spell.>>

Actually, their aren't that many card games in my copy of Hoyles. It's games
include:
Whist, Cribbage, Vingt-un, All Fours, Speculation, Loo, Lottery, Brag, Faro,
Roulette, Euchre, Poker or "Bluff", The German Game of "Sixty-Six" (Sechs
und Sechszig), Three-Handed Sixty-Six, Dominoes, Backgammon, Draughts or
"Checkers", Polish Draughts, Billiards, and Chess.
It's the same size as a pocket Bible and has 325 pages. You can find
anything on Ebay.
