[DL] RE: Suggestions for a New Guy
This is in response to a new Marshall's Questions in starting a game. I
thought I'd see what the other Gunslingers might think.
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO PLAY IN MY GAMES, THIS HAS POTENTIAL ***SPOILER***
IMPLICATIONS.
Okay, for a short term, I think Prairie ticks are always a good bang for
your buck. Also, if in doubt, throw Walkin Dead at them, I love Walkin Dead.
One nasty Bad guy I've never used, but wanted to is the Lone Snake Oil
salesman. What does he really have in that bottle? An elixir for youth? A
cure for pain? A way to get rich? OR a way t o knock out an entire family
and steal everything they own, or worse, he could be the first chemical
terrorist. (Marshall smiles)
The way this works is the group meets up with him on the road, maybe they
buy stuff, maybe they don't. If they do, there's a whatever chance you want
that it may be poisoned. Later, they happen on a town that has been stricken
by sickness, it could be the water system, it could be a bug. It could be
something totally different.
Why does he do this? I have my thoughts. I'll leave that to you, that's what
makes it your game.
Keep in mind that Deadlands has three different themes (in my mind.)
Western (self explanatory, provided by characters and setting. This one is
the most important, it's the reason why no one can build a howitzer.)
Horror (this is the interesting one and it's totally your responsibility.
The Reckoners don't want everyone to know. I wouldn't always do "Boogey Man"
stuff. The human condition and the way people treat other people is worse
sometimes than if the Reckoners directly controlled them. Isn't that
nasty-there are people that forward the Reckoners plans just because they
are bad. Plus, it makes things that are really ugly and nasty, much more.
Abominations shouldn't be commonplace. Last, you can tease the posse and
make them think that it is when it isn't.
Camp This one is a little tougher, but come on, this whole setting, the RPG
thing is a little silly. A little humor is a good thing.
Good Luck.
