Re: [DL] S&R competition
Well, to be fair to ACME a great many of their
products did actually work as advertised. When a
rocket was purchased the rocket did fire and act in a
manner generally acceptable for rockets. What was
lacking to my eyes was a proper implementation plan.
We must admit, the Coyote did stretch the generally
acceptable uses for such devices so far as to almost
loop back upon himself.
So rather than give the devices a poor reliability,
instead judge the final results from how the purchaser
wishes to use the device. Using the example above -
the rocket did fire and did fire well. What happened
was Mr. Coyote did not do well on his impromptu “Drive
Rocket Powered Roller Skates Road Runner Hunting
Chariot” roll.
It’s a user problem, not a hardware issue.
Or, give each device a base reliability and instead of
making them all low merely subtract one from the final
contraption for each added device. For example – the
rocket itself may have a reliability of 16, -2 for the
skates (-1 for each one), -1 (or more) for the
steering mechanism (or lack there of) and so on until
we get to the final reliability of, oh dear, less than
10.
Just sell ACME products as more components than
completed apparatus. So instead of buying an ACME
helicopter you instead have to order an “ACME Aerofoil
Rotor,” an “ACME Combustion Based Boiler Reactor,” an
“ACME Pilot Couch,” “ACME Landing Skids” and so on
then put it all together yourself. Far cheaper than a
S & R device as it’s kitset rather than complete. How
the end user puts the device together is entirely up
to them. No liability is offered, nor given, as to how
the device works after delivery.
Buyer Beware, and all that guff.
Cheers,
Mr. B
