We don't roll persuasion against PCs. Whenever anything like that has to be
done, we have to roleplay it out to its logical conclusion. Deadlands can't
be all mechanics, after all.

Sounds like a problem for your Marshal rather than you, I'm afraid to say.
Perhaps your player friend should A) create a new character who's less
apathetic, B) find a reason for him to go along, C) consider not
roleplaying at all, since he's being such a wussy about it.

If your entire group feels the same way about this, the problem obviously
lies with the player, and not with his character's "motivations" for
participating in the adventure. You may just have to bite the bullet and
kick the stupid sod out. Roleplaying is meant to be fun for everyone, after
all.
