That's not very gloomy at all... if they're good guys, anyway.

I think probably a more Deadlands-ish feel would be to perhaps have them be 
some other reckoner-ish things, another "species", that get off on 
"lifelands"? I dunno, maybe feelings of insane courage or strong faith float 
their boats.  

In Deadlands, they'd probably wind up being demons of another color.  I guess 
they would sort of be on our side, seeing as we'd both have mutual enemies, 
but I wouldn't expect them to be very polite about it, or to treat us with 
much respect-  think Old Testament "tough love".  And seeing as the Reckoners 
kinda own the place in HOE, it could explain why their previous tools (the 
preachers) aren't around very much anymore there...

Just me own notion of what another otherworldly faction would be like.  It 
certainly is a neat idea, as long as it's still grim for us little people.
