My girlfriend and I watch this show religiously. We
love it. Personally, we chalk all its faults up to
camp. Kind of like watching an episode of the
original Avengers.

We personally think that Jules Verne was a marketing
move. I think the average television consumer would
find a technologically victorian era strange. However
the presence of Jules Verne serves to remind everyone
that the concepts were there at the time, if not the
execution. He's a plot device used to justify the
show and draw interest. Other than that, it's a
victorian spy thriller with Phileas and Rebeccas as
the stars. Hell, Verne is listed FOURTH in the cast.

One of our favorite comments about the show is, 'Oh
there goes the two British agents taking a lower class
citizen of a foreign government on one of their
missions again.'

Again, I think the cheap production values are what
give it charm.

I read a post somewhere about this. It said they DO
have the green light and funding for a second season
so we will see one more year of the show.

But yes this show is a must for anyone interested in
the Scientific Romance genre. I don't like the term
steampunk.
