RE: [DL] E-books -- going OT
I can make one of those units with the software I have at work, a Palm
Pilot, and the magnetic reader.
Scary, huh? :)
All I know is that I was looking at the online store, and didn't get the
"secure lock" on my browser, so I promptly forgot using that store...

This stretches my OT courage, but I saw a bit on the TV about
waiters/waitresses making copies of credit cards that customers give them
when paying for a meal. You know, when they take your card to a cash
register or some such. In their pocket they have a little gizmo that
records everything on the magnetic stripe, which is then imprinted onto
another card for later use. And when you use your card at the local
Wal-Mart, they swipe the card right in front of you, then give it back. But
the number is stored in the Wal-Mart computers so they can bill the sale to
your account. And they keep track of it long enough in case you return
something you bought.
Sigh, I guess it's just the manitou in me wanting to spread a little extra
paranoia...
