Re: [DL] KKK
I've been saying for a long time that if we let Florida continue to be a
state, something like this would happen. Someone from another country
would visit there and base their opinions of us on it. My Fellow
Americans, I say again that we must find a way to cut Florida off of the
mainland.
Piotr, for the most part, Americans like people from Poland more than
they like people from Florida, so you probably shouldn't base your
opinions of us on them.
As for using the Klan in games, I wouldn't reccommend it unless your
players are serious and mature about it. I know I wouldn't introduce the
Klan into any of the games I've run; my players have not been looking for
something that serious in their games.
Historically, the Klan started as a reaction to the freeing of the
slaves. There was a fear that, once the slaves were set free, they would
have no jobs or homes, and would turn to violence to survive. The Klan
was supposed to protect whites from that kind of violence. They stayed
in this role for some time. The height of Klan violence happened between
1900 and 1920.
If there is a Klan in Deadlands, they're probably very mad at the
Confederate government for freeing the slaves. There would likely be a
number of CSA army deserters among them, or even current members of the
army. The armies of both sides do spend a lot of time doing nothing, and
certain soldiers might be members. They might go out in groups to raise
terror in nearby towns. More frightening, what if a corrupt commanding
officer knew about this and sheltered them from the law?
So, while there's officially no Klan in Deadlands, you could include
them. You could do it the mature way, or you can turn them into cheesy
thugs from the Batman TV show.
