For what it's worth, I think D&D3 is by far (and away, and not even close)
the best fantasy system out there.  The guys at WotC really, really did an
excellent job with it.  If you're curious, it's also a good time to get
interested, since with essentially only the one book to buy (unless you're
the DM, there's actually significantly less to absorb for a new player than
Deadlands.

I've been playing D&D for a long time off and on (not going to start that
pissing match again; it's not my fault I was 4 when You Know Who started
gaming...  at least I don't need dentures to chew! <g>), and the 3rd Edition
is, IMO, heads and shoulders above ninety-five per cent of the gaming
product out there.  I'm speaking strictly of the Core Rules, mind, but
they've really done a job on it.
