It was done mainly to avoid any sort of possible legal conflict.  The
Pinkerton Detective Agency is still around, even though they're called
something different (Pinkerton Security Company, or something like that), so
their name is still copyrighted.  They can use the Texas Rangers' name all
they want because they're a public agency rather than a private company.
