Actually...gryph....considering you're in Tennessee....you can pick which
side...heck every southern state during the Civil War (or more corectly War
Between the States) raised soldiers for the United States. There were
Unionists everywhere in the South. But I can sympathize about your
situation with your cousin.....most kids get a paragraph on the Civil
War...if that. It always blows everyone away when I inform them that the
casualties for the war were in excess of 1 million....of which at least
630,000 were deaths.
