[DL] New Monsters
A player of mine came up with these (entirely serious) new monsters for
Deadlands...
Livin' Beans.
When a field of beans is planted on the site of an ancient Mimac burial
ground, on the night of a full moon, in October, while the farmer's
whistling folk tunes, and his wife's inside stewing turnips, just after
eight o'clock, if it's Friday, and it's not so cold that they have to wear
an extra layer of clothing, there's a slim chance that the beans that grow
in the field will become... Livin' Beans!
Livin' Beans are small, parasitic creatures that exude a delicious, rich,
tomato sauce and lure unwary travellers in to eating them. When newborn,
they have tough, solid bodies. Heat has no effect on them other than
softening their skin and waking the evil inside. The beans travel in packs
called 'cans'. When enough beans gather together, they form a tough metal
can with an enticing label and sit around sites often used for camping by
weary travellers.
An unsuspecting traveller who ingests Livin' Beans is in for a shock.
Chewing the beans and breaking their skin frees the evil pulp inside. Inside
his gut, the victim will feel a terrible rumbling and pressure as the beans
line his stomach. By morning, this will have passed.
Bad Gramma.
When a wumman with gran'kids done gone bad in 'er life, then goes 'n' dies,
she might just come back as a Bad Gramma, an' there ain't not nuttin' that
can be done about it (darn tootin'!).
She comes back in the dead o' night, wand'rin' 'round school houses,
cacklin', snarlin', wringin' 'er withered ol' 'ands, and stealin' all the
letter 'g's from the end o' words, replacin' them with them darn
ap'str'ph's. Some o' the orneriest dang Grammas e'en steal from the middle
o' words, or put an ap'str'ph' where it ain't not right for no dang
ap'str'ph' to 'g'o!
Th' 'nly way t' kill a Bad Gramma is t' ''''' it while ''''n' a ''' an'
'''''' three ''''''s round the ol' ''tch.
