The final battle
As the monster stands there watching James, and realizes that he intends to
fire it lets the illusion fall away revealing a churning mass of faces
writhing all over it's body. James feels the first beginnings of fear
reaching out for him when he fires both barrels at point blank range.
[James spends a white for the second blast: Roll of 1, 2, 2: Chip roll is
successful]
A huge roar of sound echoes in the tunnel as a spray of lead whips into the
monster's upper chest. The blast rips through face after face, tearing
through layer after layer, shredding them even as the lead shot reach for
the core of the monster. The shots reach the core, fly through the empty
center(but still inflicting agonizing pain on the being who exists in
another world in precisely that spot) before tearing out the back and
shredding dozens of more faces on the way out.
The Monster is tossed back against the wall, grimaces and then grins hugely
as faces slough off of it onto the floor. "In a terrible voice it says,
"Good shot but not good enough. Got more?"
In a swirl of energy more and more faces start to slough off the monster. It
looks down starts to step towards James and then looks at him directly,
"You've won, but one greater than me will be born soon, when Paul gets the
book to the City of Angels. That one will burn the world." And more faces
fall off sliding on the floor and then disappearing into mist. James and
Simon in particular can feel the faces flying towards town and rejoining the
rest of the soul from which it was torn 6 years ago. Hundreds of faces flow
off the monster, disappear and rejoin as they had been years ago. The
monster dwindles, and within a minute is no more except for a pathetic,
starved manitou that retreats back to powerlessness in the spirit world.
Aunt Mary and Black Sam both suddenly go rigid as the manitou's hands that
had held them in the land of the living lose their power and dissipate. The
tentacled horor in Sam's belly mists away leaving a dead shell behind. Aunt
Mary, too falls and leaves a dessicated corpse in her wake.
