Without knowing the details of the enemy it 
sounds like you did it right just that you 
underestimated your posse or things just went bad.

If you have an enemy who relys on trick you have 
to give them time to do the tricks. The evil 
huckster that had plagued my posse would cast 
nightmare realm then phantasm. The posse started 
looking for him so he learned shadowman.  

Also you can have the posse go up against things 
that don't care about wind. Undead keep gonig 
until they get blown away.
