Mosby's Rangers was an all-volunteer unit.

No.

Mosby's command was officially designated the 43rd Virginia Cavalry
Battalion.

There were far too many guerilla bands (or to be more period, "partisan
rangers") operating during The War to mention, and they operating with all
degrees of army/government sanction. Some, like Mosby's command, were
distinguishable from regular army units only by their tactics, while others
were merely thugs who wrapped themselves in the Southern Cross in an
attempt to justify their atrocities, as was all too common in Missouri.
Sorry for the brevity of my answers, but it's not *that* long of a break.;)
