Princess Bride should NOT make you ashamed.
William Goldman is a brilliant screenwriter -- plus I believe he is also the 
author/screenwriter of "Marathon Man"

William Goldman has a clever understanding of the fantasy and swashbuckling 
genres.

Plus he has a great ironic American Jewish take on the WASP/goyish 
undercurrents of fantastic and romantic literature.
