I was surprised to find that Webster's dictionary lists both as
acceptable.  Find out for yourselves at:

I think this is one of those sites that should be in everybody's
bookmarks.

Then again Cambridge International Dictionary of English does not
recognize marshall as an alternate spelling. A couple other online
spelling resources also did not recognize marshall.  It appears that the
"one-L" marshal is more widely accepted.
