I agree with Scott.  While I've never been up against a knife fighter in
real life, our police academy here teaches that too, and we had a
demonstration when one of my academy classmates tried to refute it.  If
you can get a copy of a videotape called "surviving edged weapons" shows
a perfect example of this.
