[BNW] Character for Caiman City

Greetings,

 > Okay this is the 3rd time I tried to send this to the list - disregard
the bit at the bottom about having the attachment, it just keeps on boucing
back at me, saying the file is too large. Fair enough.

Well, after having had a quick read of the possible outline for Caiman City,
I thought I'd include a sample character that might be in this city or in
the surrounding area. He's a work in progress, but thought he / it might
make an interesting starter for debate, other ideas for characters etc.
Also, he could be used in any scenario or theme, as his personality changes
to whatever suits the gm at a time. It is an unnoficial and highly untested
package so I'll let you see what you think, comments or suggestions
appreciated by all. :)

Mangrove
--------
( a type of fast growing, tough swamp dwelling australian tree that thrives
in mucky environments and reproduces itself very quickly )

No-one actually knows how Mangrove became a delta. Some say he was a wealthy
banker ambushed by drug dealers after bad finance advice, others claim he
was part of a top secret chemical program run by Delta prime that went
horribly wrong. Some even say he's old magic, black slave stuff long
forgotten and aroused with the power being stirred by Deltas and Alphas.
Those in the know say that even he doesn't seem to remember properly
anymore. Whatever his origin, the massive hulk of rotting vegetation that is
Mangrove has continously been a burden on Caiman City's growth over the
years. The one thing that they do know is that he seems impossible to kill,
always returning to the swamp; always a recurring menace to the city.

Concept

Goliath with +5 obvious quirk - covered in gray muck and vines. His body
armour thats part of package stems from the mud and plants absorbing
damage. His strength comes from the absorbed mass of slime hardening or ( as
Mangrove might believe ) absorbing strength from the swamp lands.

I also thought perhaps instead of having superleap, it would have a travel
power that is semi aquatic. Maybe something the equivalent to the dunemaster
sand powers, riding sand or whatever he does ( haven't got Glory Days yet ).
SOmething that allows him to flow through the swamp or mud.

Personality

Schizophrenic monster. The personality seems to change each time the
creature returns from the swamp. Noted Delta Prime members and the Defiance
have claimed to have had intelligent conversations with it, and even had it
work for them for a time. But something in the end always calls it back to
the swamp, where he undergoes yet another metamorphis of personality.

Obviously, I was influenced by DC's Solomon Grundy, Swamp Thing and the
Nameless one from Planescape Torment ( computer game ), but with a touch of
Sandman from Marvel thrown in.

Guide uses

Shambling menace, brooding genius, it's upto the guide. It can be as a
henchman for major villains or just a rampaging godzilla type villain
scenario.

One thing that has been noted is the swamp and how some strange connection
has risen between Mangrove and the Swamp lands. Any time it is threatened or
disturbed, Mangrove will always be in the background, watching and judging
the interlopers intent. If they mean harm, he breaks cover and attacks
mercilessly, no matter which personality is in control.

*****

Anyway, is that the sort of idea that is being thrown around ?

One other thing: the Caiman City name does sound awfully familiar to another
BNW setting, doesn't it ?

Also, find attached a picture of Manggy, that loveable psycopathic swamp
monkey.

Cheers,

Cameron Twine.
