To my knowledge Alderac is a completely seperatly owned company. They sold
the Five Rings Publishing Group to WotC (and thus the L5R IP) and have a
license with WotC to do the L5R RPG but apart from that the connection ends.

If AEG are dropping BNW it is probably due to basic economics of the game
and the fact that some presumably costly ventures (Farscape) are in the
works which make better business sense. As far as I could tell BNW was
largely a one-man operation as far as writing was concerned with Matt being
the main man involved on the project. BNW is also creator-owned (Matt?) so
if a company does drop it the rights are with the creator to find a new home
if so desired.

I could be wrong though?
