Alter it so that in your world, both Alphas and Deltas disappeared in 1976
and new Deltas are just now beginning to appear after all this time. That
leaves the history intact, while giving you a nice Day One feel.
Delta Prime would still have all those gadgets lying around waiting for new
Gadgeteers to come along, so I'm sure that DP would return in very short
order. Plus, a question is raised: if Deltas have returned, when and if
while the Alphas return?
Just a suggestion.
