 You could go the route of having the Bargainers power base being something
more than just "evil" demons. I don't know if you've seen the film, but in
Dogma Jason Lee's character (a demon named Azrael) goes off on a rant (in cut
footage sadly, but it should be in the special DVD and video being released
this fall) about how evil is an abstract, a human concept. Originally, Hell
was nothing more than the absence of God, but as human souls were cast out
for their sins, they came to Hell begging to be punished, and thus the
concept of Hell as a firey place of punishment and evil began. You could use
that as a basis for your "demon" point of view. But given that most demons
tend to lie, you might want to take it with a few fifty pound bags of salt.
