hang on didnt this whole thing start when I posted a big list of specific
problems?

no you have missed our point entirely, you seem to have been consumed by the
meta-plot monster and now say that it is _impossible_ to write a detailed
background to a roleplaying game which also has a meta plot. This is
blatently not true.

ok that was my specific solution to the origonal posters specific problem of
what to do about gadgeeter nulifier field thingis. and your saying that it
is typical metaplotness that gadgeteers rules are vague??? no! thats
rubbish, we could quite easly have super detailed rules on how to be a
gadgeteer and exactly what devices you can build without revealing any plot.
Presumably there will be a gadgeteer book out eventualy and I can see why
you might put gadegeteers in the main book even if you havent made up and
specific rules for them yet so that peopl can play iron-man/batman type
charcters.

I assume you are reffering to the origional posters campaign, but again I
think you are wrong here. he may well have a beutifully crafted background
to each of his PCs hes just worried because jone of them wants to build a
snuffer device and he dosnt know quite how to handel this possible dangerous
(from a background nconsistency point of view) device

? youve lost me here the if you have a snuffer in your party, is a specific
problem, if this guy gose ahead and used my snuffing hand grenade idea, it
one thing if the PCs go around useing these things occasionaly against DP
units or to break ninto prisons, but you have to consider the possiblity
that a snuffer in the party could be made redundant by such devices or that
DP would use them to overwhelm the PCs in battle. this is part of my
specific answer to the posters specific question
