The four western elements were originally from Ancient Greece..so anyplace
around there would work.  That includes Greece, Macedonia, Cicely, Turkey,
Egypt...just take a look at a map of the Roman Empire.  Plenty of fun places
for an explorer to get ambushed by spirits.
