There was a Freedom Fighters comic before Crisis, and he also appeared in
All-Star Squadron prior to Crisis (ir I remember correctly)

There was also a villain named Neutron who I believe did explosions. He
fought superman, and then later joined the Fearsome Five, and fought the
Teen Titans.
